![]() With TimeForge, managers need not worry about entering conflicting shifts or assigning tasks to someone who is on leave. All users have to do is enter the employee information, create a schedule and activate the auto scheduler for repeat shifts. The system is quite intuitive and users need not spend much time learning and mastering the platform. ![]() Users will definitely love the clean and smooth interface of TimeForge. Designed primarily for restaurants and retailers, TimeForge is a viable software for said businesses that want to transition from pencil and paper-based scheduling to a more seamless, paperless setup. TimeForge comes in with an extensive set of tools and applications that simplify and speeds up the creation of effective employee schedule as well as other facets of scheduling and employee management. As a result, they are not able create employee schedules that work, leading to high turn over rates, unmonitored absences, and businesses paying for hours that are not worked. Many restaurants and retailers have not graduated from traditional employee management and scheduling setups. As business expands, more employees are needed to keep up with the demands and additional workloads. Restaurants, retailers, and grocery stores are enterprises that require high attendance and adherence to schedule from their workforce.

After calculating point estimates, we can build off of them to construct interval estimates, called confidence intervals. We realize that due to sampling variability the point estimate is most likely not the exact value of the population parameter, but should be close to it. The simplest way of doing this is to use the sample data help us to make a point estimate of a population parameter. Note that this example with the figure is hypothetical and displayed here only for illustrative purposes. We use inferential statistics to make generalizations about an unknown population. ![]() The horizontal axis represents the number of months after one unit change in the interest rate, the vertical axis shows the response of price level. Besides, there are multiple techniques to estimate and apply confident intervals, but still, through this example, we can represent the functionality of confidence interval in a more complicated problem. There are several ways to approach this issue, which involves complex theoretical and empirical analysis, that is far beyond the scope of this text. To be more specific, let's consider the following general question that often raises economists' interest: "How does a change in the interest rate affect the price level?" One peculiar way of making use of confidence interval is the time series analysis, where the sample data set represents a sequence of observations in a specific time frame.Ī frequent subject of such a study is whether a change in one variable affects another variable in question. Now, the only thing left to do is to find the lower and upper bound of the confidence interval: Once you have calculated the Z(0.95) value, you can simply input this value into the equation above to get the margin of error. You can use the z-score tables to find the z-score that corresponds to 0.025 p-value. ![]() The area to the right of your z-score is exactly the same as the p-value of your z-score.That means that the area to the left of the opposite of your z-score is equal to 0.025 (2.5%) and the area to the right of your z-score is also equal to 0.025 (2.5%). Take a look at the normal distribution curve.Calculate what is the probability that your result won't be in the confidence interval. If you want to calculate this value using a z-score table, this is what you need to do: It means that if you draw a normal distribution curve, the area between the two z-scores will be equal to 0.95 (out of 1). How to find the Z(0.95) value? It is the value of z-score where the two-tailed confidence level is equal to 95%. But don't fret, our z-score calculator will make this easy for you! If you are using a different confidence level, you need to calculate the appropriate z-score instead of this value. Where Z(0.95) is the z-score corresponding to the confidence level of 95%. Margin of error = standard error * Z(0.95) Then you can calculate the standard error and then the margin of error according to the following formulas: This percentage is called the confidence level.Ĭalculating the confidence interval requires you to know three parameters of your sample: the mean value, μ, the standard deviation, σ, and the sample size, n (number of measurements taken). You might want to be 99% certain, or maybe it is enough for you that the confidence interval is correct in 90% of cases. Of course, you don't always want to be exactly 95% sure. ![]() More precisely: if the brick maker took lots of samples of 100 bricks and used each sample to compute the confidence interval, then 95% of these intervals would cointain the true average mass of a brick. It means that he can be 95% sure that the average mass of all the bricks he manufactures will lie between 2.85 kg and 3.15 kg. He has also found the 95% confidence interval to be between 2.85 kg and 3.15 kg. He has measured the average mass of a sample of 100 bricks to be equal to 3 kg. Imagine that a brick maker is concerned whether the mass of bricks he manufactures is in line with specifications. The definition says that, "a confidence interval is the range of values, derived from sample statistics, that is likely to contain the value of an unknown population parameter." But what does that mean in reality? Toast 11 Titanium's streamlined interface, expanded feature set and online tutorials mean it's definitely worth considering, even if you're an existing user. Previous Toast updates have been criticised as offering precious little reason to upgrade if you have the previous version. This turns out to be a real bargain, when you consider Photoshop Elements 9 alone costs almost £80. The £125 Toast 11 Pro also contains Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, Boinx FotoMagico 3 RE, BIAS SoundSoap 2 SE, SmartSound Sonicfire Pro and the HD/BD Plug-in. Other bundled apps include DiscCatalogMaker, Get Backup 2 and Disc Cover 3. A redesigned Spin Doctor can now capture audio from a single running application, so if an email or instant message arrives while you're recording, the incoming alert sound isn't captured. You can download step-by-step instructions as PDF documents too.Īs is usual for a Toast suite, several other applications are included. If all this seems a little daunting, Toast Assistant brings you several online tutorial videos that explain the app's key features. With a £15 HD/BD Plug-in, you can create hi-definition discs using a standard DVD, for playback on a Blu-ray player. Toast 11 lets you set video chapter markers manually as well as at preset intervals. We hope future updates will expand compatibility, as it's a great feature when it works. Some VIDEO_TS folders converted correctly, others failed to convert at all and one actually crashed the application. ![]() Unfortunately, this proved fickle in execution. You can extract specific video or audio files from an unprotected DVD or VIDEO_TS folder, and even embed subtitles into your conversions. Videos can also be encoded and posted directly to your Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo accounts and tweet video links through Twitter – useful features for those who wish to share their home movies. This is useful if you want to run them during the night, or at other times when you're not using your Mac for other things. ![]() You can now set your video conversions to start at a specific time and date, or after a countdown set in hours and minutes. Scheduled conversions make their Toast debut. Toast is still compatible with Elgato's Turbo.264 USB hardware accelerator too. If you have a Mac with CUDA-compatible Nvidia graphics (most recent Nvidia cards support this), a feature called VideoBoost speeds up your H.264 conversions. ![]() The media browser now integrates with Adobe Lightroom as well as iPhoto and Aperture, and outside the browser, you can just drag and drop a file into the main Toast window. You can make changes to preset profiles and save them as custom settings. Alternatively, you can save it out in a specific file format such as H.264, MPEG-4, WMV, MKV and more. ![]() When you add the optional antilock brakes and automatic transmission, the Cobalt loses its edge over the competition in both MSRP and fuel economy. Of the XFE LS and LT models, the LT is the more fully featured car, including power windows and locks, keyless entry, a security system, lumbar support and interior lighting. We couldn’t find many Value Leader models in our listings most were LS or LT models. These models don’t have air conditioning or antilock brakes, even as options. You can find a list of the Cobalt’s standard safety features here.Įntry-level Cobalts start at $14,990 for Value Leader models with the XFE treatment. Granted, it’s not a very expensive option, but the Corolla and Civic both include the feature standard ABS is a $745 option on the Focus. On the highway, however, wind noise is more prevalent than in the Corolla or Focus, but it’s about equal with the Civic.Īntilock brakes are routinely included as standard equipment on many new cars, but the Cobalt’s ABS is still a $400 option. At slower speeds, the Cobalt isolates outside noises well, and the interior is relatively quiet. That was appreciated when I was stuck in traffic.Įven though the highway ride is uneasy at times, the Cobalt otherwise rides very smoothly for a compact car. The Cobalt’s manual transmission is extremely easy to drive smoothly, with a clutch that doesn’t require much work to use. The 155-horsepower four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission combine to move the Cobalt impressively on highway on-ramps and make passing easy. Just because the Cobalt XFE is fuel efficient doesn’t mean it’s a stick in the mud in terms of acceleration. Going 70 mpg on the highway, the instantaneous gas mileage readout read 37-38 mpg. Considering I was also evaluating the car - which can sometimes be a fuel-consuming process - the average mileage was pretty impressive. I consistently averaged in the low 30-mpg range doing about 40 percent city driving and 60 percent highway. The automatic Civic and Corolla, for example, have 36 and 35 mpg ratings, respectively. With the optional four-speed automatic transmission ($925), the Cobalt loses its XFE designation and is rated 33 mpg on the highway, far from the XFE’s mileage and lower than many automatic-equipped competitors. If you opt for 16-inch wheels, the manual Cobalt’s mileage drops to 25/35 mpg. That’s unfortunate, because the car’s best mileage is achieved at highway speeds. The XFE treatment doesn’t leave the car unaffected, though, as the skinny tires make the car skittish on the highway and require constant steering correction if you want to keep it pointed straight. The XFE comes with low-rolling-resistance tires on 15-inch wheels and different manual transmission gearing to reach 37 mpg. So would a tilting front seat.Ĭhevrolet added a more efficient engine for all Cobalts for 2009 that adds variable valve timing for more power and better mileage. A telescoping steering wheel, which the Civic and Corolla include as standard equipment, would have helped with overall comfort. In its fixed position, the seat base was so flat I slid forward during braking. More problematic than panel gaps or rough plastic is how little adjustability there is in the seats - so little that long drives were uncomfortable for my 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Those looking solely for a fuel-efficient, no-frills car, however, may not be put off by that. The cheap materials and jagged plastic edges inside the Cobalt radiate an aura of cheapness. Though GM has competitive interiors in some models, the Cobalt is a great example of the flaws that gave the company a bad reputation. The Cobalt is also available in a high-performance SS version, which is reviewed here. As an overall package, it leaves something to be desired. While the XFE’s gas mileage is impressive, and the Cobalt does have competitive features, its interior refinement and ride quality aren’t up to par with the competition. The Cobalt only manages to hit that mileage mark with its manual transmission, however fuel economy takes a big hit with the optional automatic that most buyers will choose. As Chevrolet’s commercials want you to recognize, the Cobalt’s 37 mpg is better than manual versions of the Honda Civic (34 mpg), Toyota Corolla (35 mpg) and Ford Focus (35 mpg). The race to do so brought Chevrolet’s otherwise-underwhelming Cobalt compact car into the spotlight with an XFE (eXtra Fuel Economy) model that bumped the Cobalt’s highway rating to a best-in-class 36 mpg.įor 2009, there are even more XFEs: Manual versions of the base (Value Leader), LS and LT trim levels, with 15-inch wheels, all get the designation, now rated at 25/37 mpg city/highway. When gas prices peaked in the summer of 2008, automakers quickly turned out models with improved gas mileage to ease consumers’ concerns. ![]() Down In A Hole is another trudge through the paths of Staley’s depression. The audience cheers again as another famous song starts. Fast guitar picking then replaces the droning sound when Staley sings the chorus line “Once again discolored skin gives you away…” The manic solo sounds even better in acoustic than it did in electric and this song is shorter because they didn’t play the part were Staley’s screams in the monotonous voice “You weapon is guilt.” Occasional during his verses Staley raises his voice to a very high-pitched tone. His voice also sounds deeper on this version. It’s a slow dirge of doom bringing power chords accompanied by Staley’s droning “Ow’s” and “Ya’s”. Sludge Factory probably makes the best conversion from a highly distorted to an acoustic song on whole album. There is also a decent acoustic solo but it’s way too short. ![]() Staley’s vocals are not as strong on this track and his voice never changes. This song has a great bass riff under the upbeat guitar, which is very uncharacteristic of AIC. It’s one of their most popular songs and probably appealed to them a lot. Members of the audience then begin to erupt as the opening guitar of No Excuses starts. The song ends with a woman singing along with Staley’s hum and the same eccentric guitar as in the beginning. This song also has a good but short solo. Staley’s vocals consist mostly of some haunting humming and then ethereal sounding verses. The guitar has Middle Eastern sounding hammer-ons and the drums also sound very foreign with Kinney lightly tapping the symbols like a tambourine. The next song Brother is another great song (this album actually lacks weak songs). The lyrics are so crushing it almost brings tears to the eyes. The whole song is so fragile, it sounds as if it is about to collapse the whole time. A very deep and similarly brooding bass line kicks in along with Staley’s brilliant vocals. This riff is truly beautifully pitiful sounding (in a good way). ![]() It starts with simply the crowd cheering and then Cantrell’s guitar can be heard like a soft whisper. The album opener Nutshell is one of the strongest tracks on this whole set. This album like Nirvana’s is also enhanced by the knowledge of Staley’s death. Also Staley vocals are just far darker than Kurt’s. AIC’s instrumentation is much better and lacks the occasional mistakes on guitar that Kurt Cobain made on stage. Nirvana’s version was brilliant but ultimately the AIC version proves the stronger of the two. Strip down the distorted instrumentations and let the singer let loose raw lyrical power. One cannot help but compare this album to Nirvana’s similar MTV Unplugged version. His death wrapped up years of turmoil surrounding his life. Staley would succumb to his depression and drug addiction April 20, 2002. It was this addicted which fueled much of the pain in his lyrics but it also caused Staley’s inability to tour in later years, along with the band growing disapproval of his addiction, and their hiatus. As every AIC fan knows, Staley was addicted to heroin. His depressing and dark vocals mixed with Cantrell’s brooding, yet melodic, tone shot Alice In Chains at the front of the grunge pack, being one of the spearheading bands of the movement. Layne Staley was certainly one of the most enigmatic front man the grunge movement ever produced. The whole album's focus went from twisted and heavy distortion to focusing on the raw emotional power of Staley's lyrics. Review Summary: A stripped down live accoustic performance from Alice In Chains which grasps at the ehart of its listener.
![]() Its trio is the most famous part of the march. The Stars and Stripes Forever follows the standard American march form. Sousa disliked recordings and radio, and most of the Sousa band recording sessions were conducted by Herbert L. Although Sousa would conduct performances of his march at virtually every concert until his death, only one recording of Sousa performing the march with his band which was, made on August 7 th 1909 by Edison (#285 and #2104) in New York is known to survive today. Later recordings by Edison and Victor were conducted by Arthur Pryor. The first known recording of the march was made by Berliner Recording Company on August 18 th 1897 (#61) in New York, followed by Columbia (#532) in Washington. Piccolo in D-flat, Two Oboes, Two Bassoons, Clarinet in E-flat, Two Clarinets in B-flat (1-2), Alto saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Three Cornets (1-3), 4 Horns in E-flat (1-4), Three Trombones (1-3), Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion The original Sousa instrumentation of the march included: This bears out the contention that the march was indeed conceived completely in his head. It is interesting to note however that not one single sketch of the "Stars and Stripes Forever" has been located. Many of the pencil sketches are still preserved. Sousa usually had the custom of sketching out the scores of his marches in pencil and then later inking out the full score and for parts to be extracted by the copyist. The march was an immediate success, and Sousa's Band played it at almost every concert until his death. I did not transfer a note of that music to paper while I was on the steamer, but when we reached shore, I set down the measures that my brain-band had been playing for me, and not a note of it has ever changed. Throughout the whole tense voyage, that imaginary band continued to unfold the same themes, echoing and re-echoing the most distinct melody. Suddenly, I began to sense a rhythmic beat of a band playing within my brain. As the vessel (the Teutonic) steamed out of the harbor I was pacing on the deck, absorbed in thoughts of my manager's death and the many duties and decisions which awaited me in New York. Here came one of the most vivid incidents of my career. Sousa tells the rest of the story in his autobiography, Marching Along. It was on May 14 th 1897 in a Philadelphia concert that the march was premiered as the Stars the Stripes Forever, and received rave reviews in the press. It was first played by the Sousa band on May 1 st 1897 in Augusta Maine. He committed the notes to paper soon after his arrival in America on Christmas Day 1896. In his autobiography, Marching Along, Sousa wrote after he learned of the recent death of David Blakely, then manager of the Sousa Band, that he suddenly had an epiphany and had written the march in his head. Surprisingly, John Philip Sousa's great American patriotic march, "The Stars and Stripes Forever," was written not in the aftermath of a great battle, but on an ocean liner as Sousa and his wife were returning from a European vacation. In fact, the march received the great honor of being selected by an act of Congress as the National March of the United States of America in 1987. ![]() Composer John Philip Sousa's The Stars and Stripes Forever is a patriotic American march widely considered to be the finest work of composer John Philip Sousa. ![]() A memorable example of the use of ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ march as an emergency signal was during the Hartford circus fire of July 6, 1944, which saw at least 168 people killed.Ĭelebrated to honor the American march of the same name written and composed by John Philip Sousa, it became the National March of the United States in 1987.First published in 1897. It would be used as a subtle notification to emergency personnel, allowing them to effectively marshall all exits without causing a stampede. The early 20th century saw ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ march commonly used as a traditional code to signal emergencies in theaters. The march is widely regarded as the ‘Disaster March’ in entertainment and show business. In 1987, an act of the United States Congress made ‘The Stars and Stripes’ march the official national march of the United States of America. ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ march was first publicly performed at Willow Grove Park outside of Philadelphia, on May 14, 1897, and was met with ardent and zealous reception. He later penned the notes on paper after he arrived back in the United States. It was composed while Sousa was on his way home from a vacation in Europe, with his wife when he got the news of his band manager, David Blakely’s death. History of The Stars and Stripes Forever DayĪccording to a 1928 autobiography titled “Marching Along” by John Philip Sousa, ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ march was composed on Christmas Day in 1896. |
